I have yet to visit Winkleigh with my camera, but will do at some point soon - if it ever stops raining! Unfortunately it doesn't look too easy to get near the tower these days.

Noel, I will certainly get in touch re becoming a member of the ARG once again.

Hi everyone, Ive just moved back to the East Midlands, I used to live between Langar and bottesford airfields a few years ago, my locals so to speak, I'm now living in Grantham not so far away. My Interests are 1920/30s aviation and pre war expansion period station architecture, also similar architecture of that period used for public buildings. my other interests are studying history, modern arts, and motorcycling.

I work in aviation, so I do get a chance to view some active airfields, although these are ever changing environments with many previous structures long since removed.

Thank you for the warm welcome every body, your quite right PNK I understand these pre war station structures were built with the approval of the rural fine arts commision, with the involvement of architects like Edwin lutyens and true artisan labour carrying out the work, no wonder they have stood the test of time. I cant see the modern airport terminal being looked at in the same way in years to come. however I guess in modern aviation, expansion is its life blood and these modern building must meet those demands

My name is Alan Houghton. I found a thread here on St Mawgan RAF base in Cornwall. I now live in Australia but spent 4 years in that area, my dad was in the RAF and stationed @ St Mawgan from around 1958 to 1963 as I recall. We lived in St Eval then @ Watergate Bay near Newquay. He was Wing Cmdr Frederick Houghton, and I am keen to find out about anyone that may have known him, or info on St Mawgan in general.
