Having come across the former airfield that was RAF Cranage 1939-1945 [active runways] through to 1957 [assorted use] a couple of years ago, I set about looking into its history and through the help of some amazing people I'm slowly but surely putting a web site together. I thought it was time I joined this excellent forum as my knowledge of airfields etc. is only that which I have gleaned in the last couple of years and I always need help. If anyone does have a look at my site, and spots errors then please feel free to let me know, I am by no means an expert, out of respect for those who have gone before me I just want to help tell the story of what happened at a little airfield in Cheshire.
I'm looking forward to chatting to people and hopefully making a few friends along the way.
Hi Craig, Welcome to the forum. Must admit that I've never heard of RAF Cranage before, but I wish you good luck with your research in to this airfield. Do you have any photograph's to post-up? Like your link !
Unfortunately it seems that although the airfield played it part pretty well, all but a few remember or know of its existence. I'll be posting quite a few photo's on the site, there are several high resolution aerial shots over a few years already up, along with a site plan from 1945. In fact I've got another 60+ pages to update and upload over the next couple of weeks.
Welcome to AiX No2SoAN, being able to focus on one subject enables a full treatment of the history and it looks, from your website, as if you have done well so far.
@ Tigger - Hi mate, it's been so long since I was active on here I'd forgotten I'd already registered. I'm at that age I noticed your comments on the Q Site, have you managed to get in fora look round yet?
@ REF - Thanks for the welcome. I'll be adding a link when I get home again this evening.
@ PeterTheEater - Thanks for the comment. It looks like you were working as an Armourer at the same time as my father. He joined in 56/57 started at Halton and left the service around 1970 at Finningly. In between he went to Middleton St. George, Cypus, Germany, Leuchars, Singapore and Penang (where I popped up) then back home to the UK.

IIRC you are younger than me!
Not managed to have the access to the control bunker cleared. When the farm was for sale it was impossible to arrange a mutually convenient time. Only been past once this year and there was no-one around to try an re-arrange permission
Weather permitting I'm going to pop down for a quick chat with whoever I need to in order to have a look round. I'll let you know what they say. Can you text me at some point so I can have your number again, I have the same number, just a new phone after killing the old one.
