Re photo's I have seen a pic from inside a Hanger of a row of Vehicles (coles crane, bus etc) I will see if i can get it and post on here.
I have seen various photos of Motorbikes which they raced.

Hi I'm an Online Parish Clerk (OPC) for five Somerset parishes which means I transcribe a range of documents relating to a parish from CMBs and censuses through to Poor Law books, deeds and anything else I can read! I've been a genealogist and family historian since 1966.

Every now and then, whilst transcribing, I find an item of particular interest which I will follow up on. Now is one such occasion. I will post this in a more appropriate place.

Hello Paul, I do still live in N.E. Lincs but away from the airfiels and sadly have no more connection with any person still living around there. After reading your response I do remember a bomber ? Wellington or Lancaster crashing over the barrier an into the nearby chalk pit but know no further details of that. Regards Joan

Qualifications aren't vital but they can be useful. The IHGS at Canterbury run courses which lead to a qualification. Your wife might like to look at them. Dundee University does correspondence courses, as does Oxford. Belonging to AGRA could be beneficial as well. Confidence is something else. Rootsweb have thousands of mailing lists which are free to join and use. If your wife has a look at the archives for her areas/county or counties of interest and familiarity (not surnames), sees what questions have been asked, jots down how she would have answered, then looks at the answers given, it could help her. Even after all these years, I still have moments of doubt. TBH, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Better to double check and confirm than be over confident and wrong

Hi all

I've been lurking about here for a while, and thought it high time I introduced myself, etc. My excuse being that there's so my interesting stuff on this site, whenever I log on I just end up reading and reading.

Anyway, I'm Mike, and I'm from deepest Devon, not far from Winkleigh airfield. My interest in airfields and aviation has been rekindled recently after a long absence - it was one of my main interests when I was a teenager (I was even a ARG member back then). My main interest lies in RAF and USAAF bomber airfields of WW2. I suppose like many, I thought back in the 1980's that as many had survived unnoticed, they would just remain like that, left to steadily get taken over by nature. Coming back to things, I was shocked and saddened to see how much had disappeared in recent years. On the upside, it's good to see that there are so many small museums dotted around on old airfields these days. One of these days I aim to have a long trip up to East Anglia to visit many of the airfields and museums.

Welcome (finally!) to the forum Mike , your sentiments are shared by many on here.

Daresay the ARG has changed significantly since you first joined, lots of interesting projects in progress, not to mention the vastly improved Airfield Review. Well worth renewing membership.

Plenty of us up here to meet up with when you plan your long trip if you want company, keep us informed.

Welcome to AIX MGC. It's a long time since I visited Winkleigh airfield ( I was based at Chivenor 1967/68) so perhaps you have some pictures to share?
