Sorry to learn about George Henry - a lovely man and great character. He grew the best spuds in the UK. His vegetables were so good I even used to fly bags
of them back to Norway from North Coates in my Dove G-HBBC!

Roger, thank you for the good wishes for our archive. Yes I seem to remember, that it was you who passed my name onto Roger Gawn in connection with my work in historical surveying of old airfields with regards to planning applications. I wrote two comprehensive reports on West Raynham, aided by WJT (as posted above), but its a shame that the whole project has now collapsed there.

I am sure we have the drawings of those MQs you mentioned at Upwood, along with may others on that station. Whilst we agree totally with your sentiments regarding old military airfields being important historic assets etc, all we can do as a group is publish and make known our concerns via this forum and our journal plus the historic reports we have compiled to advise developers and English Heritage / Historic Scotland etc about the importance of these structures. This aspect of ARG has been very successful over the years.

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

You may be interested to know that G-HBBC is currently registered to the one and only Roger Gawn. Coincidence or what? Its CofA expired some years ago.

Thanks. Do not understand 'Coincidence or not' We sold RAF West Raynham many years ago to Roger Gawn. He approached me a few years later and asked if I would consider selling my Devon G-HBBC (VP961) My partner, Clive Hughes, owner of Compton Abbas airfield and I decided to sell her as I was no longer doing my weekly commute form Norway and the UK and the aircraft was not being utilised. I sold it to Roger Gawn in 2010 and he had it dismantled at Compton Abbas and my understanding is he is moving it either to Sywell or West Raynham to have all the checks completed and airborne again. I owned it for 15 years and my father used to fly her when he was stationed at RAF Wildenrath. In 1999 Prince Philip asked me if he could see his old plane again and I flew her to RAF Northolt for a reunion. He was so impressed with our restoration as he had flown her on 67 occasions as first pilot whilst it was with the Queens Flight.. I am looking forward to seeing this wonderful aircraft back in the air again
