Hi Charlie and welcome. I note your interest in the USN, well I work in Scotland and when there I stay on the other side of the Gareloch from the old USN base at Kilcreggan. If there is anything I can help with let me know.

Hi 29navy glad to have you on board , there are afew people on the forum who are well up on the eighth Airforce & the airfields they flew from .
So if there is anything you may want info on post it up & you will get areply . I will be coming to Washington in March for aweek to visit friends But also to visit the air & space musiem at Dullas as well as the one in Wshington on the Mall .

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I've always had this thing about seeing historical sites and wondering what was there before, how it got there, what did it all look like, what happened to it and what it looks like today. I wrote a book that got published last year that satisfied some of that curiousity. Although not Airbase related, it was a WWII Navy base. The book is about the history of the US Navy's PT Boat training base in Melville Rhode Island, titled "MTBSTC: Motor Torpedo Boat Squadrons Trianing Center". So this points me in another direction and who know what may come of it.

Newton opened in 1937 as one of the RAF planned 'expansion' era airfields and pre-dates most of the Lincolnshire WW2 built airfields.

Only just discovered this forum. Had a look around and can see plenty of people with similar interests. I'm a photographer by trade. I love the infrastructure of the second world war and the cold war. Here is Suffolk I am surrounded by history. I look forward to some interesting Airfield information exchanges.
Has anyone visited Holton here is Suffolk (now Bernard Matthews) It's close to me but I've not got round to exploring it yet.

Welcome to AiX topographic. As you are now aware, the former WW2 airfield near Holton (Suffolk) was officially named Halesworth although I am sure the locals called it something else.

Plenty of airfields and militaria to be found under Suffolk if you look at the forum 'menu'
