The 'Introduce yourself' Thread

When I was at Newark Air Museum recently I picked up a copy of Ghost Stations 2 by Bruce Halfpenny. All the books were there with a new cover. Looks like they are all back in print. Has anyone a favourite story, mine is one about Bichem Newton in Norfolk which I think is in book 1 and is set in the station sick quarters. It always sends shivers up my spine if I read it.

I bought a few of these Ghost Stations books by Halpenny years ago...unbelievable is a word that springs to mind..especially his so-called solved case of the Glenn Miller mystery..unbelievable !!! :confused: :confused:

I worked on Shackleton AEW2s at RAF Lossiemouth for 3 1/2 years and have real soft spot for the old Growler. Also spent time in civvy street working on some real old airfields my Favourite bieing Levesden but spent time at ronaldsway, Coventry and Earls colne (i wish i still had photos my mate might still have lossie photos). i always have been interested in Airfield History since me dad took me to Martlesham Heath in the late 60s when the Airfield was still there and there was a single engined Aircraft there possibly a Piper Cherokee. Also wished i'd had a camera when up flying over the years like flying over Ansty in the Twin pin when full of cars.

I have recently stumbled across AIX and decided to join, so I can reminisce and share my memories, such as they are, with anyone else who is interested. My service history is that I joined the RAF as a Boy Entrant in Jan 1962, to train as an Airframe Mechanic and stayed in until age of 40, leaving in June 1986. Served in Aden, Gibraltar and in the UK, at Cranwell, St Athan, Abingdon and Wyton. On leaving the RAF, I worked for Marshalls of Cambridge at RAF Shawbury, until Jan 1990. Left them to join BT from where I have recently retired.

I may be able to add to debates about any of the airfields listed, or possibly about aircraft types. Mt main airframes have been Chipmunk, Hunter, Vulcan, Canberra and Bulldog, but in Gibraltar I was on Station flight and had a passing acquaintance with many different aircraft, including Dominies, Shackletons, Hercules and one memorable visit from a legendary Brittania.
