I have a copy of the book ; The Plaque written by Renate Beck-Ehninger subtitled Letters To My English Godson . I have also been lucky enough to meet Johnny Wynne who presented a children's rocking horse to a nursery in Huchenfeld were the murders took place . The rocking horse was named 'Hope' . It was Johnny's crew , including Harold Frost , who were murdered that night in March 1945 .

John Wynne has just celebrated his 90th birthday and our village (Llanbedr) is twinned with huchenfeld, on Sunday 17th June the village was presented with a Coventry cross of nails for its work with Huchenfeld and Tanzania.

Hi All
That sounds great about Metheringham. As regards to my favourite airfield and tower. It has got to be Coleby Grange, where I have spent many a happy visit, soaking up the nostalgia of that building. Nothing ghostly has ever happened to me there, but I like to hear people's stories.
Kevin.

Coleby Grange was always a grass airfield so was not subject to the post-war lifting of runways and taxiways for use as motorway hardcore. I often wondered why it was selected as a THOR missile site.

Hello, found the AIE by accident to be honest whilst searching to fix my boredom. I cannot proclaim any real knowledge of the subject to be honest but living in wiltshire for my 31 years I have been surrounded by the military, flown over by the RAF, RN and others and on nearly every journey from home to somewhere, an airfield (active or not) of sorts will be passed!

Anyway, I'll read with interest as I pass many more on regular journeys in a truck around the eastern counties and Devon/Cornwall and have seen some interesting decommissioned sites in the latter areas.

:)
