Hi all.

I'm Rob from an expanding town in Northamptonshire with a rich WW2 history. Always had an interest in local airfields and taken it a stage further when I recently joined the local air cadets as an adult instructor and started noticing things locally that I had seen but not known what they were before.

Been around a few local ROC posts recently and been exploring some local Battle HQs and WW2 ground defences. Taken lots of photos and am looking to explore further from home and to share ideas and info with other decent people as well as the possibility of a few meets along the way.

Spoken to a few "Urbex" people and am truly shocked by their attitude towards things in terms of "souveneirs" and criminal damage to gain entry to places amongst other bizarre and outright dangerous acts which working for the local plod doesn't really work for me! Read a few threads here and you seem a much more sensible bunch to engage with!

I have no specialist knowledge of things in this field, but have always been interested in anything aircraft related.

For many years, I have lived close to the former RNAS field, HMS Daedalus.

My grandfather was, so I'm told, the first Disiplinary Officer for the RFC; having been seconded from the Worcestershire Regiment with the rank of
WO1 - based at Waddington.

I joined to add a post concerning Portsmouth Airfield.

I am ex RAF. Joined in 1958 as an apprentice at RAF Locking (90th Entry) Trained as a Ground Radar Fitter CR. Postingas after apprenticeship were:
RAF Trimingham Rotor radar CEW site
Military Mision Kuwait (Radar Convoy) for 6 months in 62 and then back to Trimingham.
RAF Newton. Bloodhound 2 system Training course (Tracking radar T87)
RAF North Coates 17JSTU Bloodhound 2
112 Squadron Woodhall Spa and Cyprus Bloodhound 2
RAF Neatishead SLEWC ( Now Air defence radar museum)
Left RAF 1973
Interested in any info on the radar system from about 1958 on up to present day.

I'm mostly into BHQs and ground defences at moment but been doing a bit of reading on the local USAAF bases. I live in north of the county so plenty to choose from. I'm very intrigued by Kings Cliffe though that seems to be becoming more difficult to get onto properly. Got Deenethorpe just down the road and been in the ROC bunker there a couple of weeks ago with my good friend "tail end charlie" who is now resident down south but was up visiting. Also done Harrington, Chelveston, Kimbolton, Warboys, Grafton Underwood, Polebrook and Market Harborough! Just seen your profile Chris and we must live literally round the corner!
