I have had a look at Hockering by searching, there's some good stuff on here.

I live in the village of Hockering, which is about a mile south of Hockering Wood, Attlebridge airfield is about 1.5 miles north of me, as mentioned here, it belongs to Bernard matthews and is covered in Turkey sheds!!
There is a planning application from Bernard Matthews to erect some Wind Turbines, but don't know when. It's a shame that the Airfield is no longer, I just hope the runways are never removed.

Another very nice airfield is SEETHING, has any one been there before??? They have a nice little museum in the control tower, and the airfield itself (although much smaller) is an active General Aviation site.

Anyway, enough of my rabbiting for now!!!

I have been to both as they are sort of local to me too!

I thing that, given the very minimal requirement of aircraft of circa 1918, there has to be the possibility that Hursley may have seen some informal use as a landing ground .

However , nothing I have seen in the past 25 years of running down details of Hampshire Airfields and related sites has ever had any mention of this.

I agree, it would be very nice to see something that would either prove or disprove this.

Well we'll have to see what transpires!

I'm inclinded to think you're right and that Worthy Down handled the flying almost from the start. My reasoning? I've just got hold of the Flight log book of a pilot who had been at the Brooklands school, and that shows him flying to Worthy Down direct from Brooklands at the start of October 1917.

I've also just received a collection of photographs from the Commanding Officer of American Base Hospital #204 which took over the buildings that had been used by the RFC and RAMC. Several of the pictures are of Hursley Camp but interestingly one is of a crashed plane, although I don't believe it is at Hursley further investigateion will be required.

So things progress.

im midnight bounty,hello to every one.im a lorry driver travelling the country delivering goods,this allows me to entertain my interest in old ww2 airfields.when i discover one i go home and look it up on the net.thou i dont know much about it i find it very interesting and would like to learn more,ive seen many sites some up close and some not so.i live in cannock and have some air fields locally.infact where my work is based is at stanmore in bridgnorth which used to be raf even thou it didnt have a runway and was used as training i believe,i must take fotos more often as i go.

Ive actually worked on RAF Stanmore or rather the Hobbins the normal ranks housing when it still belong to Cosford, the wife worked from 1 of the hangars when it was office international now "Lyreco" office suppliers Telford, there is plenty of airfields in our area shropshire/staffordshire so the camera is a must

You will find lots of information on here for any airfield that you see on your travels. If you don't know the name just ask on AiX, give the location and our members will 'fill you in' on the history.

thanx very much,yeah theres 2 hangers there 1 is reclad and used by a tyre place and the other that was recently used by british spring as been declad to its bare frame work for some reason.im of f to lincoln tomorrow so hopefully get to see some airfields eg sinderby etc.cheers
