Cheers mate. Here's a few that I've finally got round to sorting through from Abingdons Air & Country Show back at the beginning of May. Nice show even if the aircraft where a bit distant...sorry...won't mention it again . First ever airshow I've been to which mixes aircraft with ferret racing ,clog dancers & hedge laying demonstrations . Thoroughly enjoyable day. Thanks to CDP for the company -

Nice one! Thanks for posting Steve. I need to get that one in the calendar for next year. It's one the family would enjoy by the looks of it so more chance of a pass out by making it a family day out

Yes, It's a good place to take the family mate. A nice atmosphere & plenty to see & do as well as the actual airshow itself. The organisers have already confirmed that next years event will go ahead on Sunday 14th May which is great news. I'll deffo be going back.

It is with deep regret that the Essex Historic Military Vehicle Association, organisers of the Military & Flying Machines Show, announce that they have been forced to cancel the Air Display element at this year’s event, due to the new requirements that the Civil Aviation Authority have put in place as a consequence of the tragic events at the Shoreham Air Show last year. The show organisers and our partner agencies have considered the new requirements in detail and whilst it is possible to comply with the new Air Display safety regulations, the responsibilities and liability risks placed on the Flight Display Directors and Event organisers personally, combined with the time required to arrange the necessary road closures and approvals has resulted in substantial cost increases, which as a charity, the Essex HMVA cannot absorb, this has left us with no choice but to cancel the Air Display element of the show for 2016.

This is a huge disappointment, not only for the organisers, but also for the Aircraft and Warbird operators, who have worked so closely with us in recent months to make our 10th Anniversary show the spectacular event we had originally planned.
We would like to thank all of those involved who have put in considerable effort, working tirelessly with us to try and make our original plans happen, they have supported us right up until recent issues forced the realisation upon us that we were unable to progress this any further. We are continuing to work with interested parties to see if there is any way we can plan attendance for aircraft static displays, however the new CAA regulations make this unclear at this time.
Despite this setback, the show organisers continue to work tirelessly to make this the best show ever, and are working on a number of ideas that will make the 2016 show a truly memorable event. Please check our website for further updates.

.....Oh!! it just gets worse & worse. Two minutes after posting the above cancellation I get a text from a mate telling me that this weekends Throckmorton Airshow is cancelled.

With great sadness and regret the Throckmorton Air Show organisers announce that they are having to cancel this year’s Throckmorton Air Show, due to increased insurance costs and new requirements that the Civil Aviation Authority have put in place on both organisers and pilots. Despite the organisers submitting their initial application for a display approval to the CAA back in January of 2016, prior to the controversial ‘increase in charges’, permission was not forthcoming and has only been received today. The organisers had initially considered cancelling the event in April due to the delays caused by the CAA not being able to make decisions and the goalpost being constantly changed over the new regulations, however as the show was intended to raise money for charity the organisers who are both volunteers decided to continue and persevered with planning.
With only a few days to go before the show, the liability and responsibilities placed on the FDD (Flying Display Director) & FCC (Flying Control Committee) as well as the event organisers personally, has resulted in substantial cost increases. As the show is held in aid of chosen charities, RAF Benevolent Fund and Midlands Air Ambulance, the organisers were left with no choice but to cancel the 2016 Throckmorton Air Show. The risk of not being financially viable to cover costs and donate monies to their two selected charities, has been a leading element in the decision.
That said, some display Pilots and teams are also struggling to get CAA approval under the new regulations and also have increased costs with their own insurances and documentation to display, leaving it too tight to get confirmation to our Flying Display Director in time for Saturday’s event; safety is paramount to us and we must abide by the regulations as we have done in the previous eight years.
Event Organiser, Samantha Jones, says, ‘We would like to thank everyone who has supported us and helped towards the organisation of this year’s show, right up to and including the discussions held in making this forced decision. We are truly gutted and have put our heart and soul into organising this but sadly everything feels against us and we can’t afford to take on the financial risks. Our insurance alone for this year has almost doubled as well as cost implications for the new traffic management plan. Ticket sales have sadly been lower than normal which may be a result of the tragic event at Shoreham as most shows of our size are finding this year, so we simply cannot afford to continue’.
This is a huge disappointment, not only for the organisers, but also for those who were due to display either in the air or as part of the show ground attractions; and whom have worked with us tirelessly this last few months. Sadly, traders will also lose out on sales at what would have been the 9th Throckmorton Air Show.
For those whom have purchased tickets, refunds will be made in due course.
A glimmer of hope remains for Throckmorton visitors and aviation enthusiasts, as the organisers will look into having a ‘Fly In’ event later on in the year to try and compensate for the loss of one of Worcestershire’s biggest tourist attractions. Any news on this will be shared via our website and social media in due course.

...& then there's the recent display team crashes in other parts of the world during the last week involving the Thunderbirds & then the Blue Angels both on Thursday 2nd at two separate venues, a Blue Angels pilot sadly losing his life & bizarrely exactly a week later, both The, Russian Knights (another fatality unfortunately) & the Patrouille Suisse yesterday, I've never known such a depressing time for airshows.

Anyway, moving swiftly on, here's a venue that always makes people happy, OLD WARDEN. A selection of my pics from the Season Premier Show back in May & last weekends excellent Fly Navy show...which amazingly given the current climate was one of the best Old Warden shows in recent years. Great line up, great theme, great weather & the display line appears to have moved back over the runway slightly as opposed to somewhere in the next county like it seemed to at the May Show. Thanks to CDP, James & Rob for the great company as always
