The trouble is anything to do with aviation is prohibitively expensive and some vital components are expensive to source/recondition or recreate... + red tape/regulations and paperwork by the truckload all add to the time and cost.
So I would not necessarily pooh pooh 3 - 4 mill :)

A bit off thread I guess but reading all the 'informed' comments and thoughts on here makes me think how proud we should be of all the ground crew/fitters who kept the Lancasters and other bombers airworthy during WW11. I know I have a vested interest, my father was a fitter, but Bomber Command could not have operated without them.

It would be lovely to see this one fly again though, good luck to those who are trying to make it happen.

Pauline.

Would be wonderful to get it 'operational' but please sort out the mid-upper turret.
Excess should still be possible as i have been in the BBMF aircraft on numerous occasions . . . .
they may even update the squadron markings to represent other squadron of Bomber Command rather than just 'EK' ??

..... and when they obtain the replica dambuster aircraft from mr. jackson (NO doubt many museum will be after them), the two aircraft together will add interest in the museum as it will have a static and a flyable one !!

Just Jane with her tail up 2001. This is from a set of table-mats that I bought from the souvenir shop at East Kirkby many years ago. They have NEVER been used as such !

No need to have real planes for filming with the power of computers these days but it would be great to see 2 lancs flying in formation but that is only the start, The Sally B is struggling to keep up with ever increasing cost of insurance so the Lanc would have the same problem and how long flying hours are left on the airframe. I was a member of the Vulcan club for some years and the money was not going where it should have been!
