Papajuliet - Thanks for pointing out that Mk IIs are featured in that first clip: I'd missed the engines. No 426 Sqn, apparently; and presumably at Linton-on-Ouse in 1943. Now that must be the rarest of the rare!

Good, there are plenty of static Lanc's around the country but only 1 where they belong, in the air.

I'm a supporter of NX611 and visit regularly, I can't wait to see her in the air.

I'd like to see her fly, but if she does, I'll bet you won't get the current access to her as you can now (taxi runs, interior photography etc.) she will infringe some CAA or H&S rule that will keep the public well away.

Waching the BBC news to night they interviewed Fred Pntten & it seems to have NX611 flying again has been on the agenda since they bought her back in the Eighties . I think to see two Lancasters flying in the UK would be a tromenouse tribute to BOMBER COMMAND & all the People who served in the RAF .

Nothing bad at all about another Lancaster in the air.

This has always been on the cards, but the brothers never seem to have come out fully with their intentions, only merely hinting at the possibility. I personally think it is awesome news, however you are right, the CAA might scupper the access to taxi runs and flights, although clambering around the inside should be OK. I've been on Sally B a couple of times.

Now what would be good is if they can offer flights like the Canadian Lanc. The way they get around it is that you officially sign up as part of the crew therefore you are not a passenger. Now that would be something!

Didn't they run a Catalina club like that once? For a coupla hundred quid annual membership, you had at one flight guaranteed PA, could even include practice water landings to add to your PPL log book ISTR. Got to be better than seeing a Red Bull Lancaster (shudder.)

The pantons won't do that (the red bull thing that is). That's why it's taken so long to get to this. If I remember rightly they wouldn't accept external funding unless it was a pure gift. The pantons are too true to the cause as it is in memory of their brother which is why they have such an amazing memorial at east Kirkby. It doesn't get better than a living bomber airfield if only one corner of one!
