wasnt there some talk of remaking the dambusters film last year?

if so it would be a lot easier with two lancs than just the one, if the makers of the film stumped up the cash to return it to the air in return for use during filming?

cant need that much money spent to get it airworthy, its up and running at the moment.

I visited east Kirkby last year and I was fortunate enough to have a chat with one of the Panton brothers and when I asked him about the possibility of the Lancaster flying he just smiled with a twinkle in his eye which said it all !!

This probably is the first dumb question of the year, but will she be able to fly from East Kirby?

I think so there is a section of runway still intact from when it was extended for the Americans in the Fifties .
If i am wrong then i stand to be corected .

Big difference between taxi-ing and flying in terms of stress on the airframe. The main spar needs to be replaced and no doubt other things will be found when that is done.

On the bright side at least it's not the vulcan money hemorrhage trust behind the project.

With the CAA involved...it aint going to be cheap...ever
Also depends if the a/c requires any work/replacement on the wing main spars.
The Pantons have access to excellent technical advice and I am fairly sure that they will have a good idea of the work required etc already.
As to the question of runway at EK...from memory there is about 3000 ft of hard rwy available,which I would think is ok for a lightly loaded Lanc but not an ideal length - but I wonder if there are plans to extend a little ??

After a nice shower I am a little more awake LOL...

The last time I visited EK (4/5yrs ago),all the wing panels near the main spar had been removed which suggested a spar inspection ! I have also seen various mentions on the net that the spar was deemed airworthy,I guess maybe it has some 'Hours' remaining on its fatigue life.The Pantons have been working towards flight for a looong time and I wish them well .

As to rwy length,it looks like there is grass available at the east end of the rwy...if the 'join' is smooth enough perhaps they could utilise some grass for the early part of take off run.

Oh that doesn't sound so good. I've put a few quid in when I could spare it and bought a couple of calendars; not much I know but you do what you can when you can.

Shame if so and also a big shame that it's static after the end of this year.

if the main spar needs replacing would they build a new one from scratch or see if they can aquire one off a shackleton like the raf did with the bbmf
