Avro Lancaster

Yeah I keep meaning to get over there but last time I fell foul of their opening hours.

Here is my Cockpit Shot of Lancaster 'Just Jane' First posted 19-03-2009.

I don't anyone can bet that as a cockpit shot.

I've been trying to find out any information on Lancasters that were known as 'Hells Angel' during WW2, I've been told none were but I have a copy of a wartime photo and 'Hells Angel' is clearly visible on the nose. Unfortunatly no other markings are visible, the crew are in front of the 'plane and I knew the tailgunner but unless I use a Ouija board I've no way of asking!

I'll scan the photo when my scanner is working...meanwhile, any info on any Lancaster Hells Angels?!

Post his name up on the 'RAF Commands' forum, although it sounds as if he departed after the war, try his name and the Lancasters name and see what info comes forth. They are a very helpful, and knowledgable, bunch of chaps over there!

Personally I wouldnt have thought a Lancaster would have had a name like this, its more of an American name.

379 Americans flew with RAF Bomber Command, It is quite conceivable that a fair few of those were pilots, and equally conceivable that at least one of those might have named 'their' aircraft along that theme.

Ive had a look at Wikipedia and there was a film produced in Hollywood called Hells Angels made in 1930. The motorcycle gangs however didnt appear until 1948.

As for this being the name of a Lancaster Im still not convinced. Knowing the RAF Im sure someone will have vetoed such a name.
