This memorial in Kenilworth reminds us where the front-line was in the second world war.

Won a ramble I came across this isolated Great war memorial sat down on the memorial bench had a cup of coffee from my thermos rolled and smoked a cigarette and listened to the sound of the wind very peaceful and very relaxing a far sight different from "the fields of Flanders".It lists not only those who died but those who served and survived .It is for the Shropshire village of Claverly and about half a mile away in the middle of the countryside on the byway known as Digbeth lane perhaps it was constructed by the squire of the big house (Chyknell Hall)

The church of St Chad is in the Staffordshire village of Pattingham and contains a private memorial stating it is sweet and fitting to die for ones country. One wonders what the "other ranks buried in the churchyard and not included in the memorial would of thought.

This is the Lychgate memorial at Christ Church, Great Lumley, County Durham

David Thompson kindly followed up on my request for photos of this memorial. My interest is that one of the men, Colin Duffy, remembered on the 1939-1945 panel, served on my fathers squadron, 640

These are all David's photos, posted here with his permission, thanks David

A memorial seat from the workshop of 'Mousey Thompson' to 'The Yorkshire Regiment' can be found on the northbound platform , Platform 4 at this , the main railway station in the town at the top of Victoria Road .

The station still retains a lot of its original architecture including a double curved glass and iron roof although 'modernisation' has been mooted !

Youth is wasted on the young !
