I photographed the Lochgair and Minard War Memorials last week and got the Minard one added to Canmore. Forgot to upload some pictures here but on FLICKR.
We also had a rededication ceremony at the obelisk commemorating the death of
Colonel John Cameron
at Quatre-Bras on 16th June 1815 as well as remembering all local men who died at the Battle of Waterloo. Will upload some images later. His body was exhumed and buried in the local churchyard.
Incidentally, anyone interested in the Battle of Waterloo might like to watch a programme that was on BBC2 Scotland last night. It is iPlayer but sure will be repeated on BBC2 network or BBC4.
The Scots at Waterloo
It was based around accounts of five 'Scottish' soldiers at Waterloo, one was actually Welsh and I found a website about his wife who followed him to the battlefield - she was described as Scottish but actually seems to have been Irish.
Meriden Warwickshire claims to be at the centre of England and as far as I know has the only war memorial dedicated to cyclists as well as a Great War memorial

Many of those who lived in the Baginton Fields Hostel may well have worked at the nearby Armstrong Whitworth works building Whitley Bombers . close to Coventry Air port is this memorial not to the dead but others caught up as what we now call collateral damage.

Superb photographs there WILLIAMARNOLD. Many thanks for showing them. Just hope that the Hostel memorial doesn't get vandalised in what looks to be a lonely area ? Incidentally, my Dad's first ever flight was in a Whitley from Worminghall airfield Bucks. 1943.
The Dead got memorials, The living got time.

Originally just WWi this memorial is in The Parade Leamington
The addition of Korean and Falklands war casualty's should remind us that these are real persons commemorated not just part of history and still very current.
the fountain is in Jephson Gardens Leamington and takes a bit of searching to find.

This modern war memorial (perhaps replacing an older one is in the village of Brinklow in Warwickshire.
Behind it is a flag pole flying the Union Jack . The dove with olive branch and message of peace and reconciliation seem rather out of place with the Ceremonial sword superimposed on a crucifix. Perhaps this makes it more relevant to a younger generation for whom the war is history ?In front and to the side are two benches where I sat down to drink a flask of coffee, and despite the busy traffic with the sun shining down it did feel peaceful.
