Bishopscourt or Kirkistown!

Google them as both are used for motorcycle racing and should be easy to contact.

I would suspect that they would not be the most expensive either!

One day at Barkston Heath a gentleman turned up and he wanted to use part of the airfield to practice his stunt driving would you believe! I got talking to him and it turned out he was a stuntman and he did some of Grace Jones stunts in "a view to a kill". Unfortunately as we had flying in progress we had to say no.

John, good luck with that venture. I used to call there on a regular basis for a burger and chat a few years ago. Sadly that round has since finished. More journeys are in the pipeline for this year, I'll call in later I hope.....

Hi, I have become very interested in the history of the Coastal Command Strike Wings, and of Banff in particular. I was very interested to see Cooleyn's plan of the Banff Site and wondered if it was available in a larger size so it would be possible to read the text of the building's key. I see he hasn't been active on the forum for some while, so I wondered if someone else could assist me with any information.

Hello, BeauBrummie,
You're quite right, I haven't been on this forum for some time and I should have been - apologies. My new book just came out and it has been taking up a fair bit of my free time.

As it happens, my second book has been accepted for publication and is due out in September 2010 - called "Banff Strike Wing at War" - so hopefully you'll get some more information that way.

Although I have never found time to get around to finishing the big Banff airfield map, I have produced a simplified version of it in black and white for the above book. I'll see if I can post it here as large as possible, so bear with me while I get that done.

regards,

Les

Welcome :)

I will certainly be looking out for that publication. I have seen many of the Luftwaffe photographs. My birthplace of Irvine was a Luftwaffe target, due to the nearby explosives factory at Ardeer.

Amanda

Amanda,

Interesting about your birthplace of Ardeer /Irvine . . .

I mention in the book that this is a target that the Luftwaffe should have expended more effort on as it was a potential war-winner for them, although I explain why they did not persist with any more attacks after the couple of half-hearted ones that did take place, in favour of the slavish observance of the "Douhet Theory" which I use as a running theme in the book.

You can get the new book direct from the publishers although (and don't tell them I said so) you'll find a better deal on Amazon . . .

regards,

Les
