Glad to see you here. I *think* our paths might of crossed at some point in my visits to Swindon to browse the collection. A very enthusiastic and helpful bunch you were!
Just a shame I live so far away or I'd be there almost constantly.
Hi I have just come across this excellent group, while looking for information, on RAF Stradishall. I live in a cottage on the Hundon side of the field, anyone who has flown from there will know Great Lodge (big white house end of the runway) I live next to it opposite side from the prison. The airfield is still active for training although only one pump shed left there now. I will welcome any information and stories about the airfield, (I know the history) in return I am happy to take any photos tc from the site as I walk the dog there most days
Thanks all for the welcome and for sharing all your knowledge.
OneEighthBit, i'm easy to spot, I've got bright red hair (not natural )!! I don't actually work in the public bit though, however i do know many of them who do and they are a very friendly and helpful lot.
If anyone makes it to Swindon i'll pop by and say hello
Welcome to the forum. Stradishall was marked up on my 1" OS map for a visit but a motorcycle accident in August 1973 ended that dream (along with many others). The bike broke down permanently soon after!
No Amount Of Evidence Will Ever Persuade An Idiot (probably not Mark Twain)
I'm Martin (yes, another one...!), live in Brum, recently found this forum - and really enjoy reading through the posts. Took voluntary redundancy from work last year (now retired, but don't tell the wife) and will be spending some time this year walking and photographing some of the old airfields around the area.
