Hi Hawkeye,

Thanks for the kind invitation. I may take you up on it in the future, but other pressures prevent it right now. Retirement is only in name......I'd like to get back to work for a rest!

Hello all,

Realised that i've been posting away without properly introducing myself.

I live in Swindon but am orginally from Edinburgh. I moved south about four years ago for the job, which I absolutely love. I get to look at literally thousands of aerial photographs while working on English Heritage's National Mapping Programme. And thats where my interest in Military Archaeology came in, it may sound sad, although probably not to you, but i get a buzz from spotting new pillboxes or mapping an unrecorded barrage balloon site. Obviously as an archaeologist I get interested in everything else, but i do seem to get more joy from viewing airfields on aerial photographs.....Hence i find this forum a wealth of new information. :-)

Yes welcome Manda, from one archy to another! There are a few of us on here though not many have posted recently.

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

I don't know where my career took a wrong turn but as someone who loves history and hated maths I ended up working as a finance analyst in a retail company!

One of my dream jobs would be poring over aerial photographs!

Welcome manda, it's nice to have an enthusiast as a member and it's a bonus that you get to look at aerial photographs as part of your job!
