Welcome aboard mate. If not about airfields, you can always post about what FLMs got up to socially.... ;) Rigger myself by trade but now something of a 'split-brain'!!

Dear all,

Although I have been a member of this Forum since the end of 2009, I have always stayed in the shadows. I reckon it is high time that I introduced myself. I am an ex RAF officer (1988 - 93), ex West Midlands bobby (1994 - 1997) and now a serving officer in the British Army. I am writing this from Afghanistan where I have another 5 weeks or so to go before the end of my second tour out here. Believe me when I say that I can not wait to come home to blighty!

I am interested in all things 'Commonwealth Air Forces' from WW2, especially honours and awards and flogging across muddy airfields wondering why we, as a nation, do not take better care of our national heritage. I was born and raised near the site of RAF Bramcote (now Gamecock Barracks), Nuneaton, but I have a special fondness for old Pathfinder Force Stations, especially Warboys. I was based for a time at Cranwell, St Mawgan, Kinloss, Brize and Northolt during my short RAF career. During my Army days I have been stationed at Swanton Morley (now Robertson Barracks) and, currently, Innsworth (now Imjin Barracks). The Army does love those old air force bases!

I hope to enjoy my time here and maybe add something along the way.

Kind rgds

Jonny

Belated welcome. I'll bet not many have followed a similar career path as yours!

Sorry chaps!
I have had to join your site just because I wanted to ask ONE yes 1 question.

Can anyone tell me if I can visit the airfield of Sculthorpe??
authorized or non-authorized.

I live in Northamptonshire and am visiting SculthorpeMill next Sunday so thought a visit would be interesting!

I thought I was going to have to sign the 'secrets-act' but that;s men for you! paranoid.

I would like an answer please though, even if it's from a man!

Ok now that's done, I will Spitfire it away!

Kindness to you all

Oh! what is a tag please (I thought it was a piece of loose skin hanging, and the Doctor cut it off?) so perhaps it's not if I have to include 5 on my message!

Now we dont get a post like that very often lol.

But as an answer to your question i would refrain from trying to gain access to Sculthorpe as its still an MOD training ground and is used alot.

Another thing is that this group does not condone or agree with any kind of unauthorised access to any land that is either MOD or private and that if we do go on any land we always seek permission first.

I hope that clears up any questions you have.

Regards,

HawkEye001
