Welcome to the forum Simon. The only time my wife speeds is when we pass near an airfield! She does most of the driving as I tended to fall asleep behind the wheel.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! :)

My wife rekons that I take deliberate detours so I can drive past airfields, it's my wife that does the sleeping - I probably put her to sleep talking about aviation to be honest! :)

Welcome to AiX S1mon,

You are fortunate to live in an area still crowded with WW2 artefacts mainly defence related but also aviation rich.

We have threads on all the airfields on your OP so anything that you can contribute will be welcomed.

Hi there all.
My Dad flew Lancs from Wratting Common.
Interested in any information about Ops.
I have a crew picture which looks like it was taken by the Cathedral and some crew names on the reverse.

I thought I would start my membership to the forum with a question!
I am a general member of the public and have an obsessive interest in aeroplanes, which manifests itself by way of flying the radio control model variety (I know, boys and their toys). Purely as a SOLO and with NO club involved. I am looking for a civil or disused airstrip in the Mid-Suffolk or South Norfolk area where I can fly my models.
I can provide evidence of third party liability insurance up to £5m so the owners would not have to worry about that. This is done through the BMFA (British Model Flying Association).
This would not need planning permission as I am solo as it would be with “owner’s permission” on private land.
I am prepared to pay a generous fee to allow me to continue my hobby in our ever- shrinking countryside and would be happy to meet and negotiate with the owner on this basis. Thanks Guys.

HI superflyerAda, I know that there are a few folks that fly model aircraft on the old airfield at Eye sometimes but I don't know any more than that. Otherwise I think Mendlesham has a few people there too. I am not sure of owners details of them but it maybe worth a visit.

Welcome to AiX

I've seen RC planes being flown at West Raynham. Great airfield too.

Got any photos of your models? What do you have?

Thanks Richard for your info. I will check out Mendlesham as it's not far from me
