Perused the forums on this site a number of times, and even had it bookmarked before it occured to me to become a member
I used to work on Military flights sims which saw me visit (frequently!) a number of UK MoD airfields. Now I just 'mod' BoBII in my free time. I built a bunch of ground models and buildings, and currently I am trawling through the airfields in BoB and attempting to make them appear more authentic and closer to their appearance in the summer of 1940. No small task, and no easy one either! But hey, it keeps me out of the pubs
Welcome to the forum. Rolling back airfields to 1940 appearance is, as you say, no easy task. The different phases of airfield development is something that interests me. My problem is I can't seem to restrict myself to a handful, I would want to do them all, which explains my lack of progress

I'm starting with principle Fighter command airfields then the satellite airfields, then the rest (Bomber command coastal command and RNAS)
Then after a rest I shall try inserting new airfileds previously omitted!
Hello to all members. I am 57 and grew up on RAF airfields till I was seventeen. I lived at Pembrey,Colerne,Leeming,Ternhill,Shawbury,Manby and Cranwell. As a youngster I did not have a camera so only my mind can recall things. I like researching old airfields RAF,USAAF and civil. I have quite a few airfield books and glad to be of help in other members research. My main hobby is gliding I have instructed for 23 years and have 2,500 flying hours.
I was a baby at Pembrey. There were no Airmens married quarters so my parents lived in a large rented caravan near the woods on the sea-side of the airfield,dad was target towing on the Tempest T.Vs NV778 at Hendon is one of his aircraft ! Oxford,Balliol,Chipmunk and Mosquito TT.35 also. I went missing one day and was found wondering about the Vampire flight line having crossed the active ! bear in mind I was only a toddler. No recollections of Colerne but I was at Manby from 1964 to 1966. The piston Provosts flew across our school at Grimoldby on final approach. Dad was flying the Canberras B.2s at Strubby where most of the Varsities were based. The Jet Provosts used Manby mainly after the piston examples left.
