Canberra, yes I have to admit they had the stop and block etc down to a fine art. they are still touchy over photograhing the vehicles. i know an ex RAF lad who is an absolute fanatic at photographing trucks has had his collar felt more than once. I can understand it though The anti nuke brigade are a pain but can be tolerated I suppose. Its the unknowns that could pose a threat. I got upset the day they called me in no manners, you know me a real pussy cat until I am upset !!

found the text to go with the pictures, there are probally enough dimensions to do a model. I have compared the axles etc with a 4x 2w 10ton Hands and Primrose and conclude it is most likely a Tasker. I think there are some mistrakes on the text sheet; firstly I think the UK version was an FV 3509 and the 3511 is the tropical. they give the height for both as the same they haven't done this with the other dimensions so I think there should be 2 heights with the tropical higher due to greater roof insulation. I have 2 batches of trailers bomb trolley recorded the first in 1958ish for 22 and then 1962 ish a batch of 11 the latter possibly being the tropicals. my only reservation is they are recorded as 4w 10 ton.. with twin wheels they should be 4x2w 10 ton. If I could get the reg number of just one I think I could give a more definative answer.

Ted: My Bro took some close-ups of the running gear. It is exactly the same as we had on the Type 86 radars and that was Rubery Owen. I think you are probably right that it was made by Taskers, but with RO running gear. Out of interest, in the late 80s we had Crane Freuhauf from Dereham in to look at bringing the running gear of the radars up to modern spec and they basically said chop it off and fit new. We also had Primrose 10-tonners to move missiles about, towed by AEC Mammoth Major 6s and later Leyland Bisons.

I will check any more pix I have and see if I can get a regn. I seem to remember taking a pic of one at a Waddo air show in the mid-80s.

I have justome across this site whilst browsing through records oof RAF Kingstown. The house where I was born was demolished to extend this airfield before the war we moved into the Village of Kingstown.RAF Kingstown has a lot of very happy memories for me as a youngster. I was born in 1934 the airfiield was the home of The Border Flying Club under the managemnt Of a Mr Potter My father was the Groundsman responsible for keepin the grass landing strips in good order and my mother worked part time in the Clubhouse which was situted opposite the Tollbar which was at the junction of the main Edinburgh and Glasgow roads the A 6 road ran through the village. One of the memories which sticks in my mind is that Aircraft used to taxi up to the garage opposite our house to refuel, there was a fuel pump with a long arm that used to be passed over the fence to the person refueling the aircraft.

Your mention of aircraft refuelling at a garage reminded me of a picture on my Simmonds Spartan website - have a look at the picture at the top of the linked page - can't imagine something like that happening today!

I visited my son at Waddo in the 90s there was one lying inside the fence visible from the A15, which missiles were u mving with the primrose. We had them at scamton behind the Hiuppos carrying the GSE for the near dispersals on Exercise Mickey Finn !! the good old days

Thank you Paul Yes I have lots of memories about RAF Kingstown and prior to it becoming RAF Kingstown
as a kid I often used to go with my father when he was laying out the runways using markers and when he cut the grass for the runways he used to use a small lorry pick up type vehicle called a BEAN the back used to lift off so that he could keep an eye on the five mowers that he towed behind Gang Mowers he called them, his name for the truck was the Yellow Peril because it was painted yellow.One experience that stands out in my mind was one day he got me to sit in a small Taylor Cub Aircraft he told me not to touch anything, he sneaked round to the rear of the aircraft and lifted the tail off the ground it frightened the daylights out of me I thought I had done something wrong. I was about five years old at the time
