There is some superb shots turning up here that are provoking happy memories for me. I was at Mildenhall in 84 I remember it well as the car broke down about 2 miles out due to overheating. I had a then not too pleased girl friend with me (now wife) who was not best happy with the 4 mile round trip walk to the airfield in the blistering heat. Still a burger and a Bud helped somewhat
Brilliant pics. Absolutely love seeing them and reading about your epic airfield 'mission'. Sounds like a knackering but completely brilliant day.
It's especially nice to see the shot of the Canadian Air Force Dash 7. I remember seeing that a few months later in 84 at Leicester Airshow performing a really nimble display showing off it's impressive short take off and landing 'skills'.
Look forward to seeing some more when you get the time.
The C118 from Keflavik was probably the star of the show for me. I've always loved big propeller aircraft and I think I was close to tears when I saw this one. Never seen another.
Now that's annoying - I don't have a shot of that C118 in my collection so did I not take one ? Or is it lost in my loft ? A search I think is in order. I have the Tomcat etc - great memories Shadow.
Just had a memory come back to me regarding 80's airshows. Farnborough 88 had the first appearance of Russian MIG 29's. I remember one day standing in my garden in Winchester in 88 and I heard a fast jet overhead. It was not unusual to see the odd Harrier, or Jaguar but this was a MIG 29. How odd I thought as only a couple of years earlier such a sighting would have provoked alarm. This really did signal the end of the Cold War and the hopeful end to nuclear oblivion. It was great to see the MIG's at Farnborough that year and a few years later the Bear at Fairford.

Unfortunately I didn't get to Fairford that year so missed the Bear Nice shots of the Mig 29s hydealfred - must go back to the photo cupboard and see if I can find my shots from Farnborough.
