could those 'U' shaped bits be pintle mounts for some form of machine gun. the gun would be supported by the 2 arms and the single pole would slot into a pole or fixed mount. this would allow 360 degree rotation and not an inconsiderable amount if up down movement. Im sure i have seen these some where before, and recently in the alst 6 mths to, but i cannot remember where, it was at some sort of reenactment, show, fair or somewhere like that sorry

Im not saying its for a bren, but could it be for something along that purpose?

They do look similar to the type of mount that you would associate with a heavy MG. But, like airfieldsmans reply, they look like a lot of things...but aint!

Another mystery, like a lot of the stuff we find, you know they are related to the airfield in some way, but no one knows what!

ah good question, Diameter at the lip is 3 3/4 inches diameter of the outer ring on the base is about 1 3/4 inches and the dish is about 1 inch high

No real idea. Could be an old water holder on the post-office counter for wetting stamps,and counting the Ten-Bob notes. Very nice though !
