Arthur Brooks, the Nephew of Edward used to live in the same road as me, a hundred yards or so along. Arthur also worked at Morris Motors,as did Edward at Cowley just after the war .My Father also started work at Morris Motors in 1948. Sadly they both ended up at the same Home many years later. My Father died there in 2013, Arthur is still in the Home.
The statue stands outside the Dorman Museum in Linthorpe Road and alongside a statue to another local hero and VC winner , Company Sergeant Major Stan Hollis VC , the only man to win a VC on D-Day .
Edit ; There are two other VC winners from this area in Sergeant Edward Cooper VC from Thornaby on Tees , but always 'claimed' by neighbouring Stockton On Tees and Royal Naval Lieutenant Richard Douglas Sandford VC from Middlesbrough . There is a plaque in Stockton Central Library commemorating Sergeant Cooper VC and Lieutenant Sandford is buried in Eston Cemetery in Middlesbrough . I will try and get photographs of these although I suspect that both Dresser VC and Hollis VC have family graves ?
Youth is wasted on the young !

According to legend trainees at RAF Yatesbury didnt salute on pay parade thanks to John Hannah. Apparently he had a word with the CO (he was an ex Yatesbury trainee) and got him to stop the practice. Unfortunately John Hannah was invalided out of the RAF not long after his award due to TB.
