VC Heroes graves and memorials throughout the UK

A large section in the Sun newspaper today concerning the shoddy state of some of the Victoria Cross heroes graves. Jeremy Clarkson is asking Sun readers to take photographs of those grave sites in need of attention. Seems like a very good idea to me.

PS/ I'm not a Sun reader, or fan of J.Clarkson.

On a semi-related note I half heard a story on the radio earlier about a lot of war graves being vandalized - I think it was in Belfast?

Yes, I'm back(ish).

No problem at this one. In fact there was a guy working on the Commonwealth War Graves WW2 Plot when I took these in Falmouth Cemetery. Then again Clarkson did do a documentary on 'The Greatest Raid of All'!!!

I've moved this thread to where it will be seen by all and when I find the commonwealth war graves thread I will merge the two. Lets see some of these CWGC Headstones that are local to you all.

Not the easiest to find in the poring rain today, but fortunately a service had just finished and the Vicar had a map showing where this grave was.
Definitely needs some repair work to it.

This site has photographs of most grave of holders of the VC, I have taken a few for the site.

www.victoriacross.org.uk/

There was an item on the radio about a week ago about a campaign to restore graves of VC holder, I think the government has give £100,000 and offered to match any donations from the public.

It should be remembered that many of the graves are not war graves looked after by the CWGC because the holder survived the war and of course many are from before 1914.

Like this one . Incidentally it is a group of graves that includes that of William Brydon , sole survivor of a previous involvement of the British Army in Afghanistan .

The above church of St Joesph's although listed as being in Gerrads Cross was literally inside Chalfont St Peter. I looked around the churchyard at Chalfont but couldn't find the VC holder's grave. I'll try again next Friday.
