Hello Joan i used to visit the Gregory family in the control tower over many years from the mid Seventies until the Eighties.
I always loved exploring around the old airfield . Moreen & Les would always make people welcome particuarly ex Raf Personel who were stationd there . Ive met some of them when reuions where taking place . I must say i found it always fasinating . The stories of the ghost in the tower they saw & of the night mare one of their sons used to have of a Lancaster bomber in trouble were realy fasinating . Now most of the airfield as gone so your story adds an other little bit of history to what life was like on an RAF Bomber base & welcome again to the forum . Regards ,Bomber .

Welcome to the forum. Some 1946 aerial photos of parts of Sussex are available to view online (can't recall thi site as I am a work) you will need a fast connection as they are large.

University of Sussex maybe?

Thanks for the welcome guys. I live in Haywards heath so am interested in anything local.
Have spent a little time over at ford and found a few underground bits. Fuel pump rooms mainly.
have done a few sites across the south mainly dover and Wiltshire.

My kids enjoy hunting places down and any history we can find.

Welcome to the forum Joan. Sadly for most of us born in the decades after the war our memories tend to be less exiting - or so my kids tell me. They prefer listening to their grandad's stories of wartime factories and Home Guard duties.

Hello folks.

My interests in Norfolks role in ww2 have recently be rekindled (thanks to Nick Stones Blitzghosts project) .
So after many lunch breaks looking for Airfields on Ge and general Googling i find myself here :) .
I am shocked about how much is still around! much more than the odd scrap of runway and pillboxes dotted about i had thought.

So hello all, i am no expert on anything but i love to go out and take a few photos and soak up the atmosphere.

Loving all the photos on here and the information over load.

Cheers Ben.

Welcome Ben, I am near Diss but Suffolk side of the border. There are a few other locals on here who meet up occasionally, you'd be more than welcome to head out with us all.

Look forward to seeing your photos and posts from your adventures. Where is your nearest airfield?
