The 'Introduce yourself' Thread

Hello all,
I`ve just joined this forum after having a long interest in aviation and airfields. Think it comes from my father who had been a national service pilot in the early 50`s including crashing a meteor. Grew up in the Midlands though now live in Kendal, Cumbria. Involved with the local ATC and love having a look round any old sites.

Welcome to the forum...I was born at Craigtoun Park and lived in Cupar until I was 12 so Leuchars was my local airfield.

Peter yeah am still north of the border living near bathgate these days , but am frequently as far north as aberdeen on my little road trips

Am afraid so baz, but without bombheads the RAF is just a glorified flying club lol aye I have many happy memeories of summer afternoons in cupar park , in the now filled in paddling pool

Thanks, Yes I`m aware of most of the Cumbrian sites and have managed to visit a few. Most mornings see BAe`s King Airs taking off from Walney and have flown out from Carlisle (crosby in eden) before. I will be trying to visit more this summer and will take pictures. This last week I took a group of cadets to RAF Leeming for the Air Experience Flight. A lot of activity with 100 sqn Hawks, 6 Apache`s. a couple of chinooks and a Hurcules along with the Grob Tutors. No photo`s though as a certain Hereford based regiment were training.

How has this place taken me so long to find?! Clearly I've had my head in a Norcon bunker somewhere.

I've been looking around old airfields for years - since I lived in North Oxfordshire and used to visit RAF Chipping Norton regularly. Sadly, not regularly enough to discover they'd knocked down the control tower until it had gone.

Now I have a blog where I waffle, occasionally, about old airfields. It's at mmcmusings.com There's guff about old motorcycles, watches and general bilge too. You'll have to wade through a bit of unrelated stuff, but there are three posts under 'Riding' about RAF Windrush.

And just been taking a few snaps of the decoy airfield at Tadpole Bridge - think it was a Q site, but very happy to be corrected by someone who knows more (wouldn't be too hard)
