Thanks Dave, great photos of Worthy Down. The before and after aerial views are interesting, however they give no indication of just how undulating the airfield was-must have made for some very testing landings!

Thanks. Nothing new really, but what sparked the interest was when I was out walking and came across various pillboxes, tank traps etc and two odd shaped concrete hut shells. After much dibbling about on the interenet (which is when I found this site) I have discovered that they are the remains of very rare Quetta huts, and were used for airfield defence troops accommodation. I also had a sense that the fields on the other side of the A34 were used for military purposes, but there was nothing obvious left to indicate what. Again research revealed that it was used for aircraft storage and a large number of hardstandings and Dutch barns were built among the trees. As I am on leave next week, I think further investigation on the ground is warranted!

You're correct about the airfield surface Geoff. When I was about 12or 13 I went to an air day there(c1955) and remember the bouncy landings. The other event that day that sticks in my mind was the burning of a Seafire as a firefighting demo!
