Welcome to the forum, David. Sadly not that much in Durham (County of). Although it did have a bombing range at Bradbury Carrs :)

Hello everyone.

I was invited to this forum by REF who had seen some of my airfield images on Google Earth.

I have always been interested in aviation, mainly due to my late Grandfather who used to work for BEA at Manchester Airport. As an 8 year old I was there with him when this happened www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1299105/

Also spent a lot of time at Lakenheath and Mildenhall during the seventies where my uncle was based with the USAF (he was married to my mothers sister). Lived in Cornwall from 1978 until 1984, only few miles away from Predannick and Culdrose, then moved back to the NW of England.

My main interest has always been photography, but sadly my photo collection (over 60,000 aviation photo's) was destroyed by my ex wife.

A change of job which gave me more free time rekindled my interest and for the last six years I have started to rebuild my photo collection visiting, over 200 different airfields and museums around the UK. In recent years I have started to become more interested in the history of the airfields I visit and the surviving historic buildings.

I am also active on several aviation forums and am part of the admin team / moderator on airport-data .com where most of my photo collection can be seen

I look forward to sharing my images from my travels over the coming months

Cheers

Chris aka carmedic

Hi All,
New guy from Bury St Eds. Been a visitor to WW2 airfields since I was old enough to peddle a bicycle. Sadly many that were deserted are now also denuded and those that aren't are military bases.

I had the pleasure to be based on some in the 80's and worked on many as a Civil Engineer. Including Wattisham, Honnington, Alconbury, Debden, Molesworth, Lakenheath, Mildenhall & Dishforth.

The forum looks great. Very informative and a good, friendly atmosphere here. I think I'll like it and hope i can contribute as well as learn lots.

Dave
