I had just left school (March) and my Dad took me to this airshow. A mark IX Spitfire was at this display, I'm sure I had some photographs of it somewhere Also the Vulcan..

I'm sure I took cine film of a prototype Concorde at Biggin Hill in 1972. It also included the Spitfire and Lancaster but sadly the cine projector bulb went and the Super 8 sprockets have gone missing and also the spring that stops the film running away has snapped and now gouges the film! Can't seem to get spares now!
I have yet to scan most of my aircraft/airshow slides from this era.

But on the subject of airshows...
The first Airshow I ever attended was in 1955 at RNAS Worthy Down. Aged13 we (mate and I ) cycled from Southampton - maybe 15 miles....you wouldn't let kids do that now.
I remember it was a nice hot summer day. The two most notable things about the show from my point of view were... being allowed to fire off live ammo on the rifle range...and watching the burning of a Seafire in a rescue demo.
I remember people taking photos but have never come across any...so has anyone seen or got any?
I wonder when the live ammo stopped thing stopped. I remember doing that with a tethered rifle. It wasn't as loud as the films. However I wonder if the ammo was some sort of frangible round with low power? Also what rifle would it have been in 1966-8? I always thought it was an L1A1 self-loading rifle but memory may be playing tricks.

From what I remember (it was 1955)it was a fairly standard Lee Enfield.303 bolt action rifle. The ammo looked (at least to a 13 yr old kid) much same as the stuff we picked up in the New Forest at D-Day assembly points. The forest was littered with such stuff in the 50s.
