Yes it was worth freezing my knackers off for I suppose lol!, I had to practically lie down on the concrete for the reflection shots as those puddles where tiny & that was peri track was VERY cold (& the Vulcan came out slightly blurred on them AAAAGGGHH!! )

A few that I took during the summer

I saw a documentary yesterday on the "men and motors channel about the Vulcan. They stated that the Vulcan could carry 30 1000lb bombs, news to me. Anyone know if it could? And they also stated that the Vulcan entered service with 230 Squadron!

The Vulcan carried four seven store bomb carriers so 21 bombs internally
The Valiant carried 21 bombs internally
The Victor carried 35 bombs internally

And did the Vulcan have any cooking facility? I know the Victor had a hotplate and they could heat a can of soup but never heard if the Vulcan had such a thing.

Yes each station had a soup can heater, on the flight deck they are outboard of the ejection seats, downstairs in the back they are under the working table. If you need pics I can get them for you as I am a volunteer on XM612 at Norwich.

Attached are two pictures of XM612, the clock pit and navy radar station. Both were taken last summer, we only have limited opening in Winter but as soon as possible will take more, including the soup can heaters!

Here's an update on XM655 at Wellesbourne following the announcements regarding the future of the airfield just before Christmas. Sadly there's to be no Wings & Wheels event this year. (Courtesy of XM655's Facebook page) -

Following a recent meeting with Radarmoor Ltd, the owners of Avro Vulcan XM655, we are pleased to be able to report their assurance that the aircraft is to have a future at Wellesbourne Mountford. Our day-to-day activities of maintenance and improvement will continue, and we remain open for visitors. In fact, bookings are such that we already have very few available dates for large visits in 2017.

The owners of XM655 said “We are happy to state that we are delighted 655MaPS will continue to be the guardians of the Vulcan at Wellesbourne and we continue to offer every support to them in their worthy endeavours in maintaining and operating a live example of the aircraft type at Wellesbourne, regardless of any future changes in the shape of the airfield operations. We are very proud of our ownership of this historic airframe over the last 24 years and we completely endorse 655MaPS activities in ensuring the future of the aircraft at Wellesbourne”.

655MaPS have decided not to organise a Wellesbourne Wings and Wheels event in 2017. In the post-Shoreham world, the amount of work required from our small volunteer organisation cannot be justified. Possible events for future years will be considered when we have a clearer view of the airfield’s availability
