De Havilland Mosquito

Yep, everything's been a bit of a rush to get it ready for tomorrow (29th here), bigbear. If you look at the photos on the forum link the engine cowls haven't been painted yet. That was actually the second flight; on its first it went to Auckland International where its leaky ASI was fixed, guided down by a T-28 photoship reading out airspeeds. That flight on youtube was its return to Ardmore from AKL. From my sources (the forum link above ) it didn't fly today, so I guess they are just tidying up things for the show.

Just seen weather report, might be a bit of drizzle, but chances of fine weather - it's been real grey today and yesterday; British weather. Goody goody...

Have just had the time of my life watching Jerry Yagen's Mosquito fly today. It was quite an emotional event; I saw grown men cry at the sight of its first fly past; no word of a lie. This chap next to me was openly weeping as it flashed by. And, Keith Skilling was flying that thing like there was no tomorrow; very low and very fast. You wouldn't see a warbird being flown like that in the UK these days, not that close to the crowd and certainly not by an aeroplane that had its first flight two days earlier! I used to live in the UK and I saw RR299 at a number of shows, but they were never like this. A truly special day.

here were a number of veterans there too - I got some pics of some lovely old gents posing in front of the Mossie. Will post soon.

Pleased everything went well and you had a good time. I know if I had been there I would have struggled to keep the emotions in check.

Quite agree there REF, and it wasn't built for it's beauty. We need another one... over here, that'd be great !!

The squadron letters "EG" denote No 487 Squadron of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, so have a particular resonance for this Kiwi restoration. The Squadron was involved in the famous raids on the Amiens prison and the Gestapo HQ at Copenhagen and so much more in WW2. Not sure why the individual aircraft letter "Y" was chosen. Perhaps to recognise Jerry Yagen who has financed the whole enterprise and for whose warbird museum in Virginia it is destined.

Whilst it's good news that this is airworthy the best looking Aircraft ever has twin jets on situated on top of each other and flew at Mach 2.2

Never! Not just the Worlds Most Beautiful Aircraft, but the most gorgeous object fashioned by man, ever, is/was a carrier based attack bomber that couldn't fire nukes out of its back passage...
