Does anyone know if this Lightening has been moved or is due to be moved to Waddington ??

Binbrook74 can you enlighten us on this please ??

Reason i ask is because my son is at cadets in Gainsborough and for some reason its the general concensus that XR724 is being moved.

Regards,

Haven,t heard about it being moved , but it has been moved on the airfield. It used to reside next to the northern most hangars, but it has been moved onto the base of the old control tower, you can see it on google clearly . Will keep ears open for any other movements. Phil

Hi
I can clearly say there are no plans to remove xr724 away from Binbrook.
Plans are afoot to have her running again in the future .
Hope that helps

Indeed it has moved to Briggs Metals. Follow the olde Great North Road out of Newark (now part of the A616) just about opposite the sugar beet factory, approx SK793548.

The new owner says a buyer has been found for the cockpit section, and possibly some parts at the jet pipe end.
A bit of T-Cut and that cockpit should buff up lovely. Can't wait till the next Cockpitfest!

Lightning XS420

Well it is confirmed I and my friend Mike Potten have finally taken leave of our senses. Located at Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST) in Farnborough is XS420. Whilst at Cockpit Fest I noted she was up for sale and to cut along story short Mike and myself are now co owners of the aircraft. The plan is to leave XS at FAST where she will be looked after by the museum. We plan to create a website detailing the history of the aircraft and to hopefully reunite her with some of her former pilots. We would also like to increase visitor numbers to FAST which is entirely volunteer run and they don't even charge an admission fee.

I have not put this thread in the general forum area yet as this is the first post anywhere advising of what we have done. If anyone has any shots of XS420 in service or any information regarding the aircraft please let me know. It would be great if we could incorporate info that is received into the website when created. So this is where the hard work begins and a crash course in preserving cold war airframes is going to be a must I think. I am hoping FAST will allow me to put some ARG info into their shop and I will approach them over the weekend regarding this. Mike and I look forwards to hopefully seeing some of you at FAST in the future.

Wow - what exciting news. You are starting with something that looks the part already, and it could not be at a better location, but she will be a demanding mistress!
