Douglas DC-3 Dakota / C-47 Skytrain

Does anybody know if the dakota being serviced at East Kirkby , going to be a permanent fixture there ??

According to the website; www.lincsaviation.co.uk/ it is resident there

Going to be 'busy' in that hangar then!

Richard: According to the captions against the pics of the Dak's arrival on the website, it is going to be there only until April 2009 whilst its winter servicing is carried out.

Oh, thanks WJT, I was looking at the front page of the site where it says 'Home to Avro Lancaster MkVII NX611 'Just Jane'
and Dakota N473DC "Drag Em Oot"

I hope they find another aircraft to be based there if the Dak is going

Still like to know what happened to the Spitfire, seemed to leave rather suddenly and with no official explanation. And where is it now?

Noel: There are a number of rumours as to why the Spit left, which might best be summarised as saying that it was no longer welcome as part of the display. I hope they do not try to operate the Dak from Kirkby - the strip is not really suitable for such a large aircraft. The last thing we need is the local farmer having to 'drag it oot' of a passing sugar beet harvester.

The 2 seater Spitfire is now housed in the new Bayliss hanger at the RAF Waddington flying club. The hanger was part funded by the owners purely for the spit and the remaining money came from the flying club for their aircraft. From what i can make out, and having been told from a reliable source it seems like the Pantons or the land owners got too greedy regarding hanger/ airfield fee's and didn't appreciate what the aircraft actually offered to the museum.

Well, I can appreciate you have your point of view on the Pantons Brothers and 'Greed', as long as you accept my point of view of the Galloping Major and his downright rudeness to members of the public .
