A couple of bits of shaky video, but I thought I'd enjoy the moment rather than sit behind the camera. I went to Sywell (no show) and Bournemouth (ditto), so today's trip was a spur of the moment thing. 2.5 hour drive up there, and it was gridlock about 15 miles out. I managed to get a good spot at Bamford, where they came overhead 3 times. There must have been thousands and thousands of people, even that far out.
I was at at Coningsby for their return. Huge crowds there also. In chatting to the people after the obligatory photo-call, Leon Evans, Captain of the Canadian Lancaster, said it was an eerie feeling flying down a valley with people looking down from above!
Just in case you want to get a final fix, here's today's departure plan (courtesy of the BBMF website) -
Weather and aircraft serviceability permitting, the Canadian Lancaster will depart RAF BBMF at RAF Coningsby at 1000 local time. The planned route will be as follows - timings are approximate within a 5 minute window. 1000 - take off 1010 - RAF Cranwell 1015 - RAF Waddington 1020 - Lincoln Cathedral 1025 - RAF Scampton.
Thanks guys for the positive comments, much appreciated.
Thumper and Vera were due in around 3.15, about an hour beforehand the cloud started building up and I guess a lot of us were thinking if the heavens opened they would scrub, but luckily it stayed dry and we were treated to an awesome display.
