Location anyone?

Off topic, but when was the change made to blue coveralls aka denims? IIRC they went back to green round about 83/84.

My uncle was in mid 60's and(fairly sure) he wore blue 'denims' but these Chippie techie's coveralls don't look RAF ish

The unit marking seems to be a variation on that used by Queen's UAS, which therefore suggests Aldergrove. Anyone got the Aldergrove book?

To me it looks like the hammer isn't wearing ovies. It looks like there is a line at his waist that looks like the hem of a top, also his cuffs look too tight for ovies. Not sure that'll help, but I thought I'd mention it.

pulling up the contrast it looks like **(possibly 'al')work bay, eg.. metalwork bay?

No 13 Air Experience Flight

Formed 8 September 1958 at Sydenham, moving to Aldergrove in 1973. It always operated alongside Belfast UAS and used its aircraft, so for years it was the only AEF operating Bulldogs. It disbanded on 31 July 1996.

WJT - interesting about Belfast,I knew that I had seen the badge before but couldnt place it !
I 'think' the badge is the normal white cross with a masking tape 'cross' added at 45 deg,although the photo is not clear on this pc LOL.

So might place the a/c at Sydenham or Aldergrove as both were large MU's with Major serv capability,or might still leave it as wherever the Chippie majors/mods were being carried out at that time!Might even still be Shawbury as the changing of civvy contracts often just means a change of overalls for the guys on the shop floor.
Dave I still think might be worth putting on Key,someone like John Aeroclub might be able to help.

The sign probably reads Electrical Bay.

I'm a bit pushed for time at the moment and probably won't have time to post and monitor other forums for a while.. but I expect to make contact soon with the person who supplied the photo. I'll point her in the direction of this thread.

Re the sign above the door... have tried manipulating the image in various ways to glean a bit more info, but without much success. However I'm fairly certain that the last letter of the first word on the sign above the door is a K.

Did the Chipmunks have the last two numbers of their serials on the nose? If so this could be WB583, WB683, WD283, WD383, WP783 or WP983 which could mean the piccy dates back to the fifties. Silloth, Bicester or Aston Down may be possible locations.

Good idea about the nose numbers 92 ! The Chippies I worked on normally had the tail letter on the nose !

However I would say that the Dayglo colour scheme makes the photo likely to be in the 1964 - 73 bracket.Although if an a/c coming out of storage then could be even later.

Given some more subconcious thought - the a/c may not be on a major servicing - but may be undergoing a wing modification,I believe (memory only) the Chippie had a couple of major wing mods during its service life...not that it would make much difference to location LOL
