Now this is a picture of a 29 Squadron mossie landing at Hunsdon. Down in the bottom left is a tantalising glimpse of Hunsdons control tower. If you 'blow 'the image up, it pixelates (sp?) so you cannot make out the detail as per norm.

However, those with a good eye for these things may notice something else in view, there is a structure or fitting that at first seems attached to the building. In fact I think it is mounted quite close to the edge of the runway, it just appears to be further away than it is. What is this item, is it part of the runway lighting? as it appears to have glass panels in it. Is it in fact the top of a Pundit light trailer? Certainly looks like it to me.

I asked what this concrete base was for. The tall mast in the Mossie image would be in the same position as the location of that mystery foundation we found. There are three smaller masts visible in the Mossie image alongside the tall one, these would certainly have been the small masts next to the Radar repair hut of which I have a photo of, so this confirms the location is right. My second question therefore is, what would this tall mast have been used for?
I would be interested if someone has a good bit of software that they can clean up this image and repost it, maybe then it may lend itself to a little better scrutiny!
Denis you would stand a better chance if that was a proper photo, it looks like an image that has been scanned from a book. The blown up image does not look like the tower to me I am afraid!
You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!
Of interest to me is the thing on the ground immediately below the aircraft's port flap (the box on stilts). It looks like the portable trolley mounted floodlight as shown in 'Works', page 526a. I have never seen one of these which replaced the Chance Light at some airfields.

It is a scanned image, unfortunately we do not have a real photo to work from. If you stand today where that image was taken from, then the tower would be there. Whatever this is, if not the tower, poses another question!
As suspected MM, but the box on stilts did not sit on the concrete base that we found in that link. That is almost half a mile away from where the box on stilts is on the image:wink:
I suspect the tall mast in the image to the right of the control tower sat on that base...but what was the mast for!
