Can't be more positive than that. Now I know where it is! This building may be unique, I don't know of another. Is there a preservation order on it?
Are there indications that the later external concrete surround wall was backed with earth traverses? This could indicate a change of function and give a clue to your mystery object. Any idea what the roof material was?
I am not aware of any PO on the building. The nearby Torpedo Shed was flattened as a Health & Safety risk. This was a unique building which I was lucky enough to see and photograph although now I cant locate the shots. I cant say regarding the earth traverses, certainly no sign now. The inner buildings roof appears to be of corrugated asbestos sheets. Most of this is now lying on the ground inside the building. It has front and rear entrances one of which is now blocked up. There is a substancial concrete hard standing next to the building and it is located quite close to the peri track.
The Pickett Hamilton Pillbox at the same site has been listed by English Heritage due to being rare.
