Any Observations about this Typhoon Photo

Any observations about this photo ?
Anybody have any ideas where it was taken ?

No, but R7881 was, according to the A-B serials book, with RAE, then the Fighter Interception Unit then No 3 Tactical Exercise Unit. FIU was at Ford during the likely period in which this great photo was taken. Later in its life it would probably have had unit codes. No 3 TEU was at Hawarden and Poulton (definitely neither of those) and then Annan and Great Orton. The presence of a balloon indicates a nearby industrial city perhaps, the rest of the barrage being out of the photo. Of course, it may have been visiting an entirely unconnected airfield!

I think you're right there. I've blown the photo up and the cottage is indeed a Robin (?) hangar with painted windows.

Very well done guys... I 'rescued' this shot out of a box of photos being dumped at Dunsfold during closure of the site about 10yrs ago,so it could have Hawker connections !
(1)...I did wonder if it could be related to Langley,the curved track behind the a/c does look a bit peri track ish.
(2)...But also I picked up on the camouflaged Robin Hangar pretty quickly so also wondered about a storage site.
(3)...Typhoons were also built by Glosters I think,so could be quite a number of things.

I also wondered if it was a 'staged' shot to see how effective the background is......

I wondered about Langley too but I have no idea what the site looked like. The existence of what appears to be a peritrack almost certainly rules out an SLG. Far too obtrusive.

Because I have the advantage of looking at the original,there are quite a few large drums stacked near the Robin,quite a few minor wartime looking huts etc,and actually see at least 4 men .

IF it is a peri track...I am by no means certain,it may just be a curved track !!

I have looked through my only airfield book and the Robin is painted very similarly to the couple of SLG ones illustrated,does anybody know which SLG's were used for Typhoons ??

The AR series on SLGs will have the answer but I don't have time to look right now. From memory, No 51 OTU at Lichfield handled Typhoon preparation, with an SLG at Hoar Cross.
