You are right Kebecker, they do carry Britannia alongside a lion with the person's name in the space below her outstretched arm.

As my wife tells me on the rare occasion I am right "Enjoy it!"

I am guessing that the inserts or maybe the wooden panel are to provide acess to the clock mechanism

Camelford War Memorial next to the River Camel in Camelford, Cornwall. Camelford is the nearest town to RAF Davidstow.

A friend of mine who lives in Rushden was out walking his dog in the fields when he saw what he thought was a piece of tin. Picking it up he saw the word war on it so took it home and cleaned it up. It's a plaque of some sort, I'll have to see if he's still got it. Forgot all about it til I read the interesting link above, don't know why I didn't photograph it when I first saw it
