The Hoppi-Copter Company of USA, in 1949, proposed to open a factory in Bournouth to enable world-sales production of their helo. It is likely that for test and demo purposes any of the (then) disused WW2 airfields within the area would offer a suitable site. Holmesley South too could be a contender.

It was nicknamed the "motor-cycle of the air".

There is a picture of one hovering with no pilot on board.

Last reference that I can see in the BNA is 1952 though references in the US newspapers into the 1980s but it was reporting that placed in a museum after twenty flights. Reports that its undoing was relying on human legs as landing gear.

I would only say re Holmsley that by 1949 the accomodation there was being used to house christchurch residents ....and the field was closed to flying.

Agreed on Holmsley.

Also, I don't believe the AFEE ever tested the Hoppicopter at Beaulieu. It's not in any documents I have.

Sadly I don't have an airfield plan of Christchurch, and not many photos... but falling back onto Christchurch as the location.

As I lived within a few hudred yards of Christchurch from 1942 to 1995 I can state categoricaly that is not Christchurch....no Handcraft huts there..

So, we're left with airfields like Stoney or Hurn if it's a local airfield to Bournemouth I guess - being the ones larger enough to have huts like this I assume,
