A former 3 FTS aircraft (RAF Leeming) during my final posting 1968/1970. The JP never had the attraction of operational jets their were just too many of them!
Duxford has a Strikemaster "Supplied by BAE on behalf of RSAF (Royal Saudi Air Force.) 1977 - 1983 used by BAE as test flying aircraft. 1983 onwards used by 9 Squadron RSAF."
I didn't think this warranted a new thread so here it is.
A few awkward shots in the conservation hangar
Can someone explain what the roughed leading edges are all about?

I worked on the RSAF contracts in KSA and on the Strikemasters which were based at the King Faisal Air Academy (KFAA) in Riyadh.
The Strikemaster BAC 167 had wing tip tanks. In clean configuration, there was very little indication when an aircraft was reaching the stall, it just departed. The rough textured paint - If I remember correctly called 'Camrex' was a formal modification to break-up the airflow sooner causing an early 'shudder' feedback through the controls warning of a pending stall. This was deemed beneficial for student pilot training. Despite the light ground attack capability the aircraft was used by the RSAF as an advanced flying trainer.
