Hi chaps, just uploaded a coupl more
The gladiators and the hanger shot where at the start of the sequence . Could be Debden ,
But no recognisable actors in these shots.
The other one is of George entering the airfield

Pic 2 is certainly A C Type hangar and could be Debden but Pic 3 is not the main entrance to RAF Debden. There was a second pedestrian gate down road well to the right of the main gate but that's not it.

Being a film it could be edited by cutting and splicing. I get the impression that there are scenes filmed at both Hanworth and Debden that are mixed in.

Pic 3 also shows the marchers about to exit the gate not enter.

I agree with that about the above pictures, out of interest GAL at Hanworth produced Hawker Fury's, the type seen doing the fly through.
However have we confirmed the buildings are right for Hanworth, I can't positivley id the two seen in the clip to that of the site?

My assumption that the clips that are not Debden must be Hanworth is based only on the record that the Hanworth is recordedcas the location for the filming, yet clip 3 below certainly doesn't look like Hanworth.

I checked in the Book , Action Stations 1 at Debden and there is a picture almost identical
to the picture of the gladiators I previously posted.
It's 87 squad in 1937 and the markings on the aircraft are the same.

There's a lot of formation flying in the film over open country side which I doubt could have been done over such a built up area as feltham!

One last niggle ,as seen in the earlier photo ,just before the aircraft enters the hanger it's coming in at a very tight 90 deg. Would ANY pilot do this stunt without a long straight in approach!!!

Just an aside when i said George was entering afield it's just after the photo I took,
Hard to stop DVD in right place.

Hi Trigger, I think we accept that the majority of shots is Debden, but that fly through shot, and main gates shot doesn't look right for the place.
The fly through hangar looks like a factory type building, as does the the building behind which looks like a company offices or similar, I would say the same fpr the main gates shot.

Hanworth might be recorded as the the alternative location for this shot and that could be right, the use of the Fury would back that up, however I can't find any building shots at Hanworth that support that location for the fly through.

Your right, the film was made approx 1938 and I can't find any photos later than 1929.
During this period a lot of aircraft building took place here including the hawker hart 2, so I assume a lot of building work also took place.
Will keep investigating.

Hi chaps just bought the new book "aerodromes of fighter command" from the after the battle chaps. It explains everything about its in the air.
Dickie lee did fly through No1 hanger at approx 12.30 lunch time in a Gladiator not Fury.
How ever the RAF stopped it being used in film as they thought it might give other pilots an excuse to try the same. So the sequence was made using models at feltham.
Good book worth getting
