Airfield Help

Hi everyone, I wonder if you could possibly help me?

Part of my role is I am the leader of a Duke of Edinburgh award scheme for some air cadets and some cadets from various squadrons have special needs, quite a few have some mobility issues so would struggle to keep up with a ' normal ' DofE expedition.

As part of the expedition the participants have to perform an investigation or report, this can be on anything as long as it is within the remit of their expedition, which leads me to my question.

Due to the mobility issues the cadets would need a flat area, and they need something interesting to investigate, take pictures of etc, well the thing that came to mind is a disused WW2 airfield, it meets every need, flat, most have easy access and the investigation can be of extant WW2 structures.

So, can anyone suggest a disused WW2 airfield that has some extant structures that are visible and photograph-able in yorkshire? I have access to RAF Church Fenton/ Linton-on-Ouse/Leeming etc however this wouldn't quite fall into the DofE ethos as it would be too pristine..

Anyone got any suggestions?

Not sure if it's of any help but have you thought of Croft Aerodrome. Not sure what is left of the old site. Another thought being Dishforth being AAC but open for Gliders on a weekend. A quick call to the RSM may point you in the right direction..Knowing RSM's it maybe the front gate

Thanks for the replies, Dishforth could be a possibility, but I do like the idea of Linton bomb stores, it's away from the main site and could take tents... I'll have a chat with ops and see if it would be possible.
