location info?

Hello,
As a Dutchman I am studying British airfields of WWll and document still existing Control Towers on photo. The location is mentioned in a for me strange code, and not as I expected in geographical info. Could it be something like a survey code? And how to encipher?
Anybody can help me?

Why, Yes. for instance the code for Moreton Valence is OS: SO796100. For you Brits it might be a piece of cake, but we can't eat it..

By far the simplest application is Where's the Path, Theo.

If you look in the bottom right corner the National Grid is displayed for the cursor (plus decimal Lat/Long). This example is centred on Moreton Valance as above SO 796xx 100yy
