During the summer i was walking around the Llandow area and i noticed this where the peri track runs SW at the end of runway 28
it is situated at OS Grid reference 968,715.
I've seen that myself, I just assumed it was a fence post capping from way back.
It is a bit ornate, but I would have thought that any marker for the Tudor accident would much closer to where it happened.
Could it be a datum position or marker for surveying etc?
It looks like the top of a bell, however that grid reference (as far as I can make out) puts it at the Sigginston village end of the runway which is the spot where the Tudor crashed.
It's about a third of a mile from the crash site, I can understand someone making their own memorial, but not why it would be that far from the site, especially as the memorial stone is almost on the site.
Is it definitely a cruciform? My pic here kind of looks like a shaft with a collar over it, but it was about five years ago when I saw it.
In fact to my eyes it kind of looks like and old bit of machinery has been nabbed and fashioned to become a fence cap!

I think you might be right. The top now looks almost like a very rusty threaded stud with an equally very rusty nut on it. Just need a proper close up of it now!
Thanks for the close up Mawganmad. looking closely i now see its a bolt and nut. looked very different when i saw it from the field gate by the side of the road.
Now its making me think what this piece of metal came off.
Next time I go home via Llandow I will get a closer look and take some pics.
Be great if it was aviation related, but have a feeling it's probably more farm implement!
