Can I find out if an Am. Army Air Force sargeant was in Eng. before Operation Torch?

According to United States Army Air Force records, Staff Sargeant Peter Titus, ground crew chief for the 92nd Fighter Squadron of the 81st Fighter Group, was sent to North Africa for Operation Torch. He was in the first class of mechanics trained to work on the Republic P-47. Since the RAF used the P-47 before D-Day and Operation Torch, I wondered if my Dad's ground crew was stationed at an Air base in England to help RAF ground crews learn to workon the P-47.

It's possible that his squadron was shipped directly to North Africa, and spentno time in England.

I hope there is someone who can provide some insight.

We have one or two resident knowledgable experts on USAAF units on the forum, I'm quite sure that if the 81st FG spent time here, they would know!

I can tell you that the 81st Ground section sailed direct to north Africa from the USA. Activated at Morris field NC USA in Feb 1943. The Air element left by sea to the UK and equipped with P-39 Airacobras and P-40's. They trained with the type until the 12th December when they left via Predannack, Cornwall, UK for North Africa with all personel leaving the UK between 24th Dec 43 and the 2nd Jan 44.
Their locations in the UK were: Goxhill, Atcham, Kirton in Lindsey and High Ercall.

The group never returned to the UK, and moved to India and China.
