Just found this in a document on Scribd(whilst slowly recovering from a massive Xmas dinner)...

Document is" 9thAF D-Day Target Photos" a downloadable PDF...lots more interesting images in it .

This (untitled) I presume shows activity laying an airstrip near the beach-head.
There is a lot of other good stuff on Scribd if you can tolerate their abyssmal search mechanism

I don't go to Scribd but it seems to come to me sometimes!

The image could be captioned:

'A platoon of Scots Guards searches for a dropped farthing':)

I tried Scridb but when you try to download it asks me to pay a subscription.

The sequence that the above photo comes from also shows the laying of the treated fabric (can't recall the proper term) from rolls. The location could be anywhere but as a sequence it is a good set. The one above looks more like repair work or corrective work on a depression in the runway.

The guy who dropped the farthing bent down to pick it up and it hit him on the back of the head :)

A Scots chap dropped a 50 pence coin and caught it before it hit the ground. Talking of 50 pence's why are they shaped the way they are............ so they can be removed from a scotsman hand with a spanner

Its one of the A airfields in Normandy, when you visit Normandy all you can see now is where the hedgerows were removed and maybe the odd memorial stone.
